1. Chips around holes after drilling

To solve this problem, you may check if there’re problems like a small spiral groove or helical angle, the transition between alloy and cutter body is not smooth enough, the primary rear angle is too small to be a secondary value, the center tip is too short and thick. Also, before drilling, you need to check whether your dowel drill bits suit your machine or not(2800-3500 RPM is a normal value). Besides, too much glue and if the glue is still wet on wooden board will also cause this problem. Or, you may make a simple mistake—make the wrong direction of the rotation.

5. Chips heed up on the flank surface

This problem may happen when there is too much glue in processing materials, just change the material you are going to process or change your bits. In addition, when the drill bit reaches phase transition, it starts to wear seriously, which will also cause a lot of cumulative chips on the rear cutter surface during drilling. And unreasonable production of the split cutting edge will also cause a lot of cumulative chips on the back surface during drilling.

6. Drill bit bends or breaks when drilling

This problem mainly happened on small size dowel drill bits or extension dowel drill bits. We will talk about this in two aspects. First, from the bit itself.
